Holding Landlords Accountable- Heritage House
A recent report by the Wednesday Journal highlighted the unsanitary and unsafe treatment the residents of Heritage House Apartments are subjected to. As an organization, we stand with renters in holding landlords accountable for unacceptable living conditions.
Supporting Diversity in Oak Park - HOPE Fair Housing
HOPE Fair Housing’s investigations into housing in Oak Park found that there were violations including “income requirements that would prevent voucher holders from being accepted and discouraging certain callers from applying based on voucher program questions. At least one included race-based discrimination.” The Village must look to remedy the violations found by HOPE Fair Housing to make sure our community can remain a place of diversity.
Activist and local historian John Duffy has an ongoing section in the Wednesday Journal explaining the history of Oak Park housing, especially as it relates to racial and class discrimination. The series is vital because we all have a duty to study our past in order to fix our present problems.
